Digitale Sammlung Deutscher Kolonialismus

Digital Collection: German Colonialism

Digitization of a Representative Selection of Works on German Colonialism
A project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (April 2017 – March 2019)
In academic collaboration with the Creative Unit Colonial Linguistics – Language in Colonial Contexts at the University of Bremen.

Between April 2017 and March 2019, more than 550 works related to German colonialism were digitized at the State and University Library Bremen. Project partners include the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library in Frankfurt/Main and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Digital Collection: German Colonialism offers free access to these titles. Use the search function above or browse the categories in the “Contents” box on the right-hand side. The full texts are also being integrated into the CLARIN-D research infrastructure of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

All title and structural metadata, as well as the full text, are fully searchable. Each title is also available as a free PDF download.

Please note:
The terminology used in the titles and metadata reflects the language of the original historical sources and may include terms that are now considered racist. These terms do not reflect the views of the State and University Library Bremen.

Additional Information
The selection of titles was based on the historical volume catalogue " Kolonialwesen" (Colonial Affairs) of the State and University Library Bremen.
Here it is available online free of charge.
This catalogue was also the subject of an academic study published by de Gruyter.
